We are an inclusive organisation. We believe every individual is entitled to be their best true selves, whatever that looks like.
We celebrate the traditional owners of our nation and support a multicultural, diverse ability Australia.
Children regarded as gifted are more common than many realise, found in every demographic group and every personality type. The Department of Education and Training define giftedness as “the possession and the use of outstanding natural abilities, called aptitudes, in at least one ability domain (intellectual, social, creative, physical) to a degree that places an individual at least among the top 10% of age peers in the school”. Gifted students often require, or benefit from, collaborative approaches to their learning and development.
Gifted development is often asynchronous meaning whilst a child may be excelling in one area, they may in fact be below average, or struggling in another/others. This complex interplay of development often results in the need for educational modifications to best support a little warriors to learn at their potential.
The identification of giftedness requires subjective and objective measures including formal cognitive assessment, and are often completed to support school scholarship applications and academic extension programs.

Intellectual impairment is a neurodevelopmental profile identified in 3% of children and characterised by significant difficulties in cognitive ability as well as adaptive functioning (i.e., day to day tasks such as self care, communication, safety and socialisation). Children with intellectual impairment often experience comorbid disabilities resulting in complex learning needs. Additional school supports are typically necessary to support a child to successfully participate in the school environment.

Early identification and intervention for social emotional difficulties are critical to wellbeing and functioning across a range of areas. In early childhood, self-regulation (i.e., how children manage and express emotions and behaviour) in particular serves an essential foundation for other areas of development to advance.
Lower levels of self-regulation in children are associated with issues such as depression, anxiety, noncompliance, aggression, hyperactivity, poor impulse and emotional control, and conflict with others.
In addition, lower levels of social and emotional competence in childhood, from as early as 3 years old, is consistently found in research to largely predict a range of outcomes across both adolescent and adulthood also, including:
Mental health
Life satisfaction and wellbeing
Qualifications, income & job stability
Physical health
Substance misuse
Crime and mortality
Stable romantic relationships
At LW we understand the lifelong impacts of childhood social-emotional development and the importance of early intervention. Social-emotional assessments, include:

Starting school is a major milestone in your little warriors life and will set the tone for much of their future development. Many parents worry that their child may not be ready to start school while others feel their child is being held back by rigid age entry restrictions.
School readiness is a measure that demonstrates how prepared a child is to succeed at school and involves much more than your child being able to write their name or count to ten. The complex interplay of development necessary for school readiness involves cognitive, social, emotional and behavioural milestones.
A child’s readiness is measured against 8 indicators:

Learning difficulties are neuropsychological differences. Like other neurodivergent kids, those with learning difficulties have brains that are simply wired differently, Differences in how information is received and processed result in difficulty with learning new information and skills, resulting in significant challenges or underachievement in one or more areas of academic performance. The difficulties are not explainable by the child’s cognitive abilities, in fact children with learning difficulties will cope well, or even excel, in different areas of learning. The most common types of learning difficulties involve problems with reading, writing, and maths.
Early identification and intervention is important. The complex interplay of development often results in the need for educational modifications to best support a little warriors to learn at their potential. If you suspect your little warrior may be experiencing learning difficulties, a learning assessment will provide the knowledge, understanding and remediations required to thrive.

At LW we provide the gold standard in cognitive assessment and provide a thorough understanding of your little warrior’s cognitive profile including abilities, strengths and challenges, as well as the indication of any cooccurring neurobiological diagnoses.
Cognitive assessments are conducted for diagnostic clarification of suspected impairment and or giftedness. They are also wonderfully informative in providing a comprehensive profile of individual cognitive strengths and challenges for any child. Having this information allows us to provide specific recommendations that enable parents and teachers to shape a child’s learning environment to best suit their individual learning profile for optimum outcomes.
The process involves completing a range of tasks and activities requiring resources form a range of cognitive functions. Results are understood within the framework of where a child’s performance falls in relation to those from the standardised sample of same aged children (i.e., Sam’s cognitive functioning was equal to, or greater than, 78 percent of same aged peers in the standardised sample).
Our assessment results and recommendations provide you, your little warrior and their teachers with the information needed to best support your little warrior to thrive.
